RoboUP Raccoon 2 SE Review by Tom’s Guide: A Robot Mower That Truly Works on Its Own

The Raccoon 2 SE is designed for anyone who wants a simple, affordable, wire-free robot mower for lawns under 500m². Tom’s Guide spent time testing it in multiple gardens to see whether it really delivers on its ‘Just Press Play’ promise, without the usual complications of setup, mapping, or Wi-Fi reliance.

Ranked by Tom’s Guide

What the reviewer liked:

1. Extremely easy to use
2. Strong value for a wire-free mower
3. Reliable mowing performance
4. Works even without Wi-Fi
5. Quiet operation
6. Can be operated without the App

What could be better:

1. Joystick feels basic

Setup & Design

Tom’s Guide found the Raccoon 2 SE very fast to assemble. Attaching the bumper takes only minutes, and the charging base can be placed on grass or a lawn edge with simple ground stakes.

The design:

- Two rear wheels
- A front swivel wheel
- AI camera
- Clean top interface
- Large emergency stop button
- Robot mower blade system

Navigation That Doesn’t Need Wires or GPS

This is where the Raccoon 2 SE stands out. Instead of boundary wire or RTK, it relies on AI vision and sensors. In Tom’s Guide’s first test, mowing began immediately after pressing Start, no mapping step required.

In an 80m² garden, the mower created a clean cut and accurate map. Manual joystick mapping worked but wasn’t necessary. The mower was also tested in a second garden with zero Wi-Fi access. Even without the App, it started, navigated, and completed mowing normally, confirming that it’s suitable for homes without strong outdoor Wi-Fi.

App Use Is Optional

The App adds schedules, target mowing, border adjustments, and height control for the grass (30-80mm). But the mower fully works without it.

One limitation noted: Remote-control driving doesn’t mow at the same time.

Final Verdict

Tom’s Guide concluded that the Raccoon 2 SE offers one of the most hands-off mowing experiences in its class, especially for smaller gardens. Its ability to operate without Wi-Fi, without wires, and with almost no setup makes it ideal for anyone who wants simplicity first.

It may occasionally need a nudge on tricky terrain, but its independence, price, and ease of use make it an excellent value, especially for daily, low-effort lawn care.
